Investing Responsibly in Africa

At ECP, we firmly believe that responsible investing is complementary to profitability. Being a good corporate citizen and enhancing the social development of the communities in which we invest is a key part of our business goals. To reach those goals, we have fostered a culture of transparency and accountability within ECP and our portfolio companies. The sum of ECP’s policies and procedures is our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Management System, which provides a framework and guidance for our investment professionals as well as our portfolio companies. The core of our ESG approach can be found in our ESG Policy.

Encouraging African Development

Through investments in high-growth companies, ECP enables large-scale job creation and technical and managerial skills development, thereby fostering a more sophisticated workforce across the continent. Our focus on infrastructure has also resulted in significant investments in sectors vital to Africa’s development, including ports, telecommunications and transportation systems, and basic utilities such as power and water. Having invested in 40 different countries across Africa, our investments are not solely focused on the most developed areas of the continent. Our portfolio companies have provided cell phones in Sierra Leone and Malawi, flights to Mali, employment to thousands of rural workers in Chad and Congo Brazzaville, fertilizer to small Moroccan farms, and affordable housing construction for families in Cameroon. Combating Bribery and Corruption

Central to our mission is to act with integrity in all of our operations. ECP is committed to complying with all applicable laws and best corporate governance practices wherever we operate. ECP expects all employees to comply with both the letter and spirit of applicable law and governance codes.

ECP affirms that it will not pay any bribe or unlawful fee to encourage the performance of or compromise the integrity of a certain task, nor will ECP accept any payment, gift, or inducement from a third party intended to compromise our integrity. ECP has communicated this policy to all of its employees to ensure its commitment to integrity and legal compliance. Moreover, ECP communicates its commitment to good governance to potential portfolio companies, from whom it requires the same high standards.

Any person who believes that ECP or its staff are involved in bribery and corruption is encouraged to report their concerns on our Ethics Hotline located on the Contact page.
