Regulators from the SEC to Europe are clamping down on investment funds large and small for their ESG disclosures. The stringent regulatory environment is symptomatic of the great lengths to which investment funds will go to please authorities, writes ECP COO Carolyn Campbell. In this op-ed, Campbell wonders whether ESG fervor has gone too far and whether efforts to lower the carbon footprint, promote health and safety and strengthen transparency have come at the expense of alleviating poverty in places like Africa.
