June 23, 2020: Carolyn Campbell, Managing Director, Founding Partner, and Chief Operating Officer of Emerging Capital Partners (ECP) was invited to participate in a webinar organized by Invest Africa on “Consumer Products in Africa, Investment Opportunities, COVID-19 and Supply Chain Disruption.”
Alongside four panelists (Tjaart Kruger, CEO of Premier Foods; Debbie Law, Sector Director at Rand Merchant Bank; Stephan Eyeson, CEO and founder of Survey54; and Andrew Skipper, partner at Hogan Lovells), Ms. Campbell underlined the importance of local supply and distribution structures and discussed some of the strategies adopted by ECP’s portfolio companies to navigate the current health crisis.
Ms. Campbell also expressed optimism about the African retail market, noting that every crisis is an opportunity for lasting change, particularly on the back of technological innovation. “When this crisis is over, new innovative and resilient players capable of participating in the socio-economic development of the continent will have emerged… Consumers will remain, but their consumption patterns will change.”
